Irish Cancer Society
The Irish Cancer Society plays a vital role in achieving world-class cancer services in Ireland, to ensure fewer people get cancer and those that do have better outcomes. Their goals are focused around prevention, early detection and fighting cancer with three programme areas to achieve them; advocacy, cancer services and research.
Leukaemia CARE provides vital care and support to all those whose lives have been affected by leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma and the allied blood disorders. Their work extends to the welfare of families and carers, as well as that of patients themselves.
Macmillan Cancer Support
Macmillan Cancer Support improves the lives of people affected by cancer. In 2008, Macmillan merged with Cancerbackup, with the vision of making support and information available to everyone affected by cancer. The Cancer backup website has over 6,000 pages of up-to-date cancer information, practical advice and support for cancer patients, their families and carers.
Marie Curie Cancer Care
Marie Curie Cancer Care is one of the UK’s largest charities. Employing more than 2,700 nurses, doctors and other healthcare professionals, they mainly care for people with cancer but also care for people with other life limiting illnesses. Their services are always free of charge to patients and their families.
Myeloma UK is the only organisation in the UK which deals exclusively with myeloma and its related disorders. Services provided by this organisation cover every aspect of myeloma, from information and support to improving standards of treatment and care through education, research, campaigning and raising awareness.
Rarer Cancers Forum
The Rarer Cancers Forum is a registered charity that offers advice and information to individuals with rare and less common cancers or to their families and riends, providing a 'bespoke' service by phone/email/post. The Rarer Cancers Forum raises awareness about rare and less common cancers and the needs of patients; produces educational resources for patients, their families and health professionals and has involvement in securing the best possible services for people living with rarer cancers. When requested, the charity tries to facilitate networking between patients and/or families affected by the same or similar rarer cancers.
MDS UK Patient Support Group
The MDS UK Patient Support Group provides support to people with MDS (myelodysplastic syndromes) and their carers; advances public education in all aspects of MDS in the UK, through publications and the internet; promotes and supports scientific research into the treatment and care of MDS patients and provides a vehicle for networking between sufferers and carers. The MDS UK Patient Support Group is affiliated with the MDS Forum, the foremost UK organisation focused upon MDS, providing information and advice on the status and progress with MDS treatment in the UK, and with the MDS Foundation, Inc.
